The one tiny ray of light in that is, if they even start talking too loudly about re-instituting the draft (let alone trying to pursue it seriously), I don't imagine that will improve their re-election chances any. The political ad pretty much writes itself:
"George W. Bush lied to the American people to begin a war with Iraq. Then he ignored the advisers who told him it wouldn't be a quick an easy victory, and refused to give them the materials and personnel they really needed. Then he told the U.N. to bugger off and turned the war into a clusterfuck. Now, with Iraq a sea of chaos and bloodshed instead of the peaceful democracy we were supposed to be creating, he wants to force YOU to go finish HIS war."
