I can see my house from here

So, I was playing around with google maps and I realized that I can figure out when the most recent sattelite photos of Bloomington were taken, based on lots of evidence.
My theory is between Jan 6-8 of 2006 for the following reasons.
1. there are no leaves on the trees, indicating winter
2. there are almost no cars in dorm parking lots, indicating school holiday
3. there are almost no cars in the mall parking lot, ruling out pre-christmas
4. my car is parked at my old place, which indicates that I was there. I returned on the 5th of January in the afternoon.
5. the only other option is spring break, but I left my car parked on the other side of the parking lot while I was gone in England, so that is ruled out.

I don't actually have spare time, I just do weird things.

Man, do you have a deerstalker hat and an opium habit to go with that deductive reasoning?

I do have an odd man who hangs around me and a penchant for saying 'elementary'

That explains a lot...

what are you implying?

That you're a man who solves crime.

And holy crap that's a distracting icon.

I second the distraction. Sheesh.

I can tell you definitively that it was before April 03, 2006, as the thirty trees that were knocked down on our property during that windstorm are all still standing as of this picture.

(Did that make sense? I'm trying to say there are trees in the picture that aren't there now, and haven't been since April 03.)

I can't see enough of my driveway to see if my car's there or not, though, which might have helped to prove or disprove your dating (as i was in Dayton on January 7-8).

Surly also notes that the last time he looked at our house on Google Maps, they had newer, but less clear, pictures--i.e. all of the trees were down and cleared in the last pictures he'd seen. However, the resolution wasn't as good.

Ultimately, looking at our yard makes me very sad. I miss those trees. It's probably for the best that they're gone, but...yeah.

Hah, I was thinking the same things. Campus is empty, my old nissan is in my drivceway, and all the trees are bare. You can see some people speed boating on Lake Monroe, so it must be kind of warm.
