Some updates

Okay, it's been 2 months of Atkins for me. I've been hardcore about it, counting the carbs, not cheating at all, and it's been working great. I am about 38 pounds lighter than I was when I started. I am no longer obese according to science. It feels good to be shrinking. In two weeks I decide whether I keep it up or try and stop the momentum.

I find that characters become albums for me recently.
Aki is Haunted by Poe
Peter is the Strange Days Soundtrack
One of my potential characters is OK Computer by Radiohead
The other is Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix

My birthday is the 19th. I am planning to do something for it, so if people are interested, it'll be a lot of fun. Keep your calendars open.

Just so you know, from everyone I've talked to who's been on Atkins and from the nutrition class I'm taking right now, the minute you stop doing Atkins you gain the weight back. Usually all of it. You've been starving your body of carbs and putting them back into your body after that long of an absence will cause your body to "stock up" metabolically.

Unfortunately, if you decide to stay on Atkins to prevent this effect, after a year or two (usually closer to 2) your body starts having some organ problems. Your liver especially (if I remember correctly) is prone to mild to severe failure.

I knew Atkins was never a terribly good idea, but after taking some nutrition I'm seeing just how bad of an idea it really is. Already as more people have long-term issue with Atkins the fad diet community is moving away from it. I'm not really the best advocate for this, though, so you might want to do some research of your own about coming off of it. Especially consult sources that are not Atkins affiliated or trying to sell you Atkins products.

My plan is to undergo a period of retuning in which I return my body to the use of carbs as a primary fuel. After that period I intend to be far more careful with the glycemic indices of the food I eat and to consume far fewer empty calories. My hope is to enact lasting change.
My big problem that Atkins has helped is that I was too fat to exercise properly. I could not do anything in terms of jogging or anything without risking future use of my knees. Now that I am at a reasonable weight and with the weather warming up, I can exercise again. I stick with the belief that dietary changes in the long run and regular exercise can overcome the shortcomings of Atkins.

i have heard the same things about Atkins being bad...however i have heard that ...is it the South Beach diet, being very similar is better for you ....it's more like what you said the empty carbs thing I THINK....my sister is starting it being very not for the Atkins diet...it just requires to eat only unprocessed carbs...meaning whole wheat bread, pasta and the such...that's the basic gist and the guy who does it is my what i understand more informed...he is a cardiologist....excuse my spelling....and *cough* DOCTOR atkins i think was like some random other kinda doctor not really related to the heart or organs...though i could be totally off base...i think it's great though that you have done so well...i would love ot be able to stick to ANY diet other than not eating so much which i haven't done so well at...may be now i will hehe
congrats!
