you are mistaken, as the divine miss chilimuffin(which I like to think of as a name from a 70's action flick like the ones Kill Bill pays tribute to, there would have to be a pause though, miss chili muffin)is also on my friends list, and thus is known by two people on my friends list, your self and herself. As cool as she is, the crush is not her.
I have a confession to make. My name is not Alison. I am not really in library school. I don't have a clue how to sew, I hate baking, and I can't stand living in Bloomington. This has all been an elaborate ruse so that I can infiltrate the ranks of the exclusive B-ton gamer community. At long last, I have achieved my objective.
My real name is Flora Jenkins. The rest of the agents will be along to wipe your memories momentarily.
So . . . BEn gave me some clues, and I've started outlining them. I'll provide them to you, so you folks can have fun guessing who person X (the one friends list individual who knows this mystery lady) is. Mystery lady shall henceforth be known as m.l.
Hints provided by BEn (who's taken much too much joy out of driving the boggan crazy. Will someone please inform him that this counts as cruel and unsual punishment?) a: Only person X knows m.l. (besides BEn, that is) b: BEn hasn't added Jennie K. to his friends list, but adding her will not increase the number of people who know m.l. c: Chillimuffin doesn't know m.l., although she knows more of BEn's ex's than anyone other than Colin. d: X wouldn't neccessarily know that BEn likes m.l., which means X has probably not seen BEn and m.l. interact. e: BEn has meet both X and m.l. in person. f: m.l. is not a professor g: X is known by at least 25 people other people on the friends list. In fact they're probably friended by at least 25 of the people listed below.
Conclusions: -All people who are peripheral friends (e.g. random friends from the web, friends from life outside b-ton and earlham) can be eliminated as X because they will not have been friended by 25 people on this list.
-People who have overlaping sheres can be eliminated (e.g. m.l. can't be related to the GP because GP is covered by Brian, James, and Mike)
It is not Jennie K.
Assumptions: I. m.l. is a local girl, because he mentions it now, and he hasn't been out of town lately and had a chance to meet some new person.
Ia: If I is true, then people who know very few unique bloomington-ites (e.g. people who only visit bloomington and don't have an extensive social circle here) can probably be eliminated.
II: m.l. shares a sphere of acquaintence with X which is not shared by anyone else on the list. BEn and X share a sphere of acquaintence.
The following people can be eliminated because of the <25 on the rest of the list requirement: aldred amazingted butterfluff chilimuffin confuzed coyotegestalt dragon212k kinetikatrue kitsunebeast maiel mayjojo nanobecca nomadboi pherdnutv seanaface spooksix
Which leaves us with the following list:
ancientwisdom: English overlaps with Darlene. Gaming folks overlap everywhere. Probably knows unique people. Cannot be eliminated. austenebrous:Academic interests don't overlap with other friends much, however they don't overlap with BEn's either. Can't be eliminated, but less likely. azorielios: Unique b-ton connections here? Can probably be eliminated bigsnob:Strong possibility here if Assumption #1 is invalid. Yet assuming it is valid, he can be eliminated since he doesn't have many unique b-ton connections. bneuensc:Academic overlaps with other list members and BEn. Cannot be eliminated chesire_smile=Few unique b-ton contacts. Unlikely, but can't be eliminated. coyotewatches=Overlapping sheres-gaming, GP. Mike and James have the GP covered, so Bryan is unlikely, but can't be eliminated. danielmc= (etc.) dracaena_rocket= drake_rocket= dyrecorn=Jay ellegua= erdedrache= fallen_scholar= feyangel= gollumgollum= hahahello= josef_grey= khaoskitty= kitsune_den= kitty_bitch= kniedzw= laurelwen= moonandserpent= ninja_turbo= odanuki= oddsboy= ozziel= pathseeker42= princess706= pythia_akrypta= rvrdraco= sapphohestia= sarcastibich= selenya= siani= solestria= squishymeister= thekittyninja=
OK. Well, it's really late, and I'm very tired, so I'll leave this list for others to work on. Have fun.
I do, in fact, have unique b-ton connections, but since I doubt BEn even knows them, let alone is interested in them, I think you're correct - my knowledge of the individual can likely be eliminated.
You bring up a valid point though: I think I'll modify or add to my assumptions.
Assumption III: Of the people with relatively few obvious b-ton contacts, how likely is it that BEn would share this overlap and be aware of it? Assuming that it is true that only 1 person actually knows m.l. (BEn's assertion could be wrong) then in order for a person with relatively few unique b-ton contacts to be X, BEn would have had to have discussed or mentioned m.l. with X. However I believe that BEn claimed that X probably did not know that m.l. is, in fact, m.l. Does this make sense? If this assumption is valid, then we can eliminate all people who have random acquaintences in Bloomington, which narrows our list down to bloomington-ites and former bloomington-ites. Anyone see any huge, gaping holes in Assumption III?
Curse you and your infernal "hints." They're just designed to drive the boggan mad. Bad pooka!
So . . . -er- . . . What invalidates my assumption? I mean, how well can you keep track of random associations with non-bloomington-ites? I mean it's possible . . . Is this your way of saying that it X is not a bloomington-ite?
I largely overlap with Alyc and Darlene on the academic front, so unless it's some random anthro student I've had a class with, I'm probably not the one who knows.
and sapphohestia, the only flaw i've seen in your logic at this point is the assumption that BEn's after a mystery *lady*. unless we're having *lots* of fun with gender. *grin*

and I won't totally make it hard on sapphohestia, it is a mystery lady and not a mystery lad.
