the end of Atkins, for now

Alright, since I am currently on a 36 hour detox-fast, working through toxins that have built up in my body due to a limited diet, I will review briefly my experiences with the Atkins diet and how it worked for me.
I started Jan 5. On my way home from PA, I started the induction phase, avoiding carbs like the plague. Driving on Atkins is a hard proposition, because there's so little Atkins friendly food available at truckstops and the like. I ended up stopping at a grocery store and eating celery most of the way home. At this point, according to the scale in the bathroom, which was weighing off by 10 pounds in the light direction, I weighed about 230(240) pounds.
Now, at the end, I am, according to an adjusted scale, 185 in my skivvies. This is 55 pounds. Pretty much all the weight I've put on since high school, the vast majority of it from access to a cafeteria that served crap food leading to 3 years of grilled cheese and french fries followed by a year of pizza. I now fit into 34 waist pants, which is 4 solid inches off of my waistline. When I began, I was no longer able to fit in 36 waist, and even owned some 40 waist pants.
The aftermath is the hard part. I need to keep a well regulated diet, which I have ideas already about how to do, and I need to get some good exercise, which I already do. I hope to build a bit of muscle and lose a bit of fat, but not in the drastic way that I did with the 55 pounds.
The best part, really, is the knees. My knees no longer complain at use. Even extreme use does not leave me in extreme knee pain. This is a wonderful thing, and was a large part of the reason for the diet. Also, looking at myself in the mirror and finding myself sexy is a good thing.
Tomorrow night, I eat my first meal with carbs as primary nutrition since January. I look forward to it.
