The thing about the matrix that kinda bugs me is one of the philosophical issues it brings up, the connection between real appearance and residual self-image. Thomas Anderson spent his entire life plugged into the matrix, suspended in this fluid bag thing. He never saw himself, yet in the matrix, he looked pretty much the same as he did outside of himself. How was this determined? Morpheus says it's residual self image, but where does the residue come from?
