Jun. 22nd, 2004 02:55 amI believe that something about my previous post was not recieved as I originally intended it. It seems to have come across as passive-aggressive, where I meant it to be more philosophical. What I was attempting to convey was the issues that power can exacerbate in social groupings and the value of public discourse to that process. It was not meant to imply that anyone exercises absolute power or anything of that nature. Power is almost always a matter of internal social standing within subcultures, not a matter of overt power. The position of ST is a powerful position, because it has social standing associated with it, not because it allows the ST to do any untowards actions.
I apologize for any misunderstandings. I was somewhat unclear.
