watching the show Deadwood makes me want to call everyone "cocksuckers". It shall pass.

But before it does, the cocksuckers over at SBC need some killin'. So I call to transfer my phone and DSL. They quote me last friday, 11 days after I move in. I say, OK. while I am gone, they move it to monday, 14 days after I move in. I say OK, begrudgingly. I call them today and they move it to next wednesday 22 days after I move in, because THEY are fuck-ups. Meanwhile, I have to go out and use the internet in cafes and such and am unable to get in contact with people regarding the festival this weekend, which I am supposed to be coordinating volunteers for.

AAAARGH!

So, back in college, I had a professor of Astronomy named Ray Hively. One lecture, every semester, he would talk about how the Earth would get hit by an asteroid, or comet, or some other sort of space object. The budget necessary to scan the sky for this object, so that it could be detected and deflected if necessary, was marginal compared to the budget for things like the military. For the cost of one jet, we could scan the sky for years. He could be brought to tears on this subject.
What has happened in New Orleans, reminds me entirely of that lecture. They could have prevented this, but they decided to spend money on war instead. Gotta love the government.
