In the first episode, he is talking about the historical origins of baseball and he gets to the part about baseball being played during the Civil War, subject of his earlier documentary, and the music cue of Ashokan Farewell, the main theme from said earlier documentary, plays in the background.
He knows how resonant his images are and makes an intertextual music joke to his fans. It's what a history/media geek lives for.
