Book 5 of my life is over. The Bloomington Years, as it could be titled, has come to a close, and now I'm feeling at a bit of a loss. I feel frustrated about the lack of direction in some ways. The vagaries of academic job searching, the peculiar slowness and eternal doubt, have me really frustrated. I want to have a sense of the future, a knowledge that gives me a chance to plan. I have some applications out that I could use some goodwill poured towards. If anyone can give me some good vibes regarding these positions, I'd be grateful.
University of Chicago-Johnson Instructor: this would be a position working with students in the program Amelia is currently in, which would work quite well for me. It would give me a chance to work with graduate students and advance my career that way.
Northwestern University-Adviser/Lecturer: I would love the opportunity to work with students in a direct way, and lecturing in American Studies would be good.
City Colleges of Chicago: I've currently applied to the Humanities department at Harold Washington and the History department of Richard Daley. I'd be happy for even these positions, working with students from the city, as I've had good experiences with a diverse urban student population.
Of course, I'm in a position right now where I need to process. I need to go on walkabout. I need to spend some time in the city, traveling without destination. This weekend is my goal, but I need to figure out when exactly works out.
