Masks
The mask I set aside which once I wore
with manacles that held me to the ground,
removing that which ere had held me bound
reclaiming names that I was called before.
But now the name I bear is not my own,
Possessed by one identical to me
and those who knew him, they can only see
the man who was to them, but not me, known
And now the mask I wear is my own face
adorned, by he who also held my name,
with histories of innocence and blame
for me, who is a stranger to this place.
the face, the name, the self; they are not mine
So who I am, ergo, I must divine.
