So, it looks like I am going to need a new laptop. I am looking for a windows machine that is light, has decent battery power and the capacity to play DVDs. Anyone have any recommendations?
...not Dell. They are a bunch of bitches. Mike and I tried to order a desktop from them over the website, but due to a mistake on my part (because the options weren't clearly explained on the website) we are not going to be getting a computer from them b/c THEY cancelled the order. Then when I tried to call customer service to find out why that had happened and what we could do, I was passed back and forth between customer service and financial services at least 8 times. I spent over 2 hours on the phone (over about 5 separate calls) being passed back and forth. My questions were not answered, no on listened to what I was actually saying as they stuck strictly to the script. Finally I found one wonderful person who was of genuine help and able to help me and explain what had happened. Still, the hassle and *terrible* customer service has made it so I will not be purchasing anything from them.
...while i would actually recommend Dell. the only problem i've had with them in 6+ years of ordering computers (okay, so i've done it like 3 times, but still) is that they take forever to ship. other than that, you can pretty much get what you want and pay what you want, within reason.
if you'd like to look at my laptop sometime, just let me know. it's an Inspiron 1100 and pretty reasonable for what it's got.
From my admittedly limited experience, I have to recommend Sony's new ultralight Vaio. It's like 3 lbs and runs at over a ghz. Only problem is that you likely won't get it for less than $1800.
having recently been screwed over by them, I'll say....
