I've not yet met a JJ Abrams production that I've liked. But this one I am excited about. Perhaps it doesn't really matter to me whether it's good or bad. Just the fact of it is cool.

As excited as I am for this movie, there's something that kind of bothers me about having an adventure, really the first adventure, of the original series crew have spiffy modern special effects. It's not just that I'm so used to seeing Kirk and crew on carboard sets with special-ed effects, that is part of it though. Mostly I see the older, much more dated special effects of the original series as a depiction of the older less sophisticated technology that was in the original series, as opposed to the later series. I alwas took the budget appearance of the original series to convey that the technology of Kirk's era was less advanced than the technology of Picard/Sisko/Janeway's era. That's part of what bugged me about Enterprise too, I mean I only saw one episode of it but, it still bugged me.

That being said, looks cool, and I can't wait to see it. Simon Pegg as Scotty is my favorite casting choice since Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan.
