There has been some chatter on The Hill recently on re-instituting military conscription, aka the draft. This has provoked me more than a bit

I suppose it comes down to what the relationship between the country and the citizen should be. It is my firm belief that the government should not have the right to demand that you kill for their interests, especially not in a democracy. If a cause does not inspire enough people to join and possibly die, and too few people can be enticed economically into the armies, then the cause is democratically not worth fighting for. It's a sort of vote, and if the United States goes back to forcing people into military service, then the government will have truly admitted it's hypocrisy, that this is a nation ruled by the whims of the rich rather than the needs of the people. I feel bad partially because by the law, I cannot be sent to the army. I have conscientious objector status dating back to birth. But nobody should ever have to do that again.
