I've been thinking about Christianity recently, it's just kinda come up in my life and so I've been trying to figure out what about it troubles me so much that I have distanced myself from it. And I think part of it is that Christianity does not present a clear moral code. I invite people to disagree with me, but I will cite chapter and verse back which contradicts any individual sense of morality in the Bible. It is this very textual muddiness that has made me draw away from Christianity despite some solid statements that I can agree with(Old and New Testaments). Instead, I seek my morality from Wicca and it's simple rede of "an it harm none, do what thou wilt"

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.

"love your neighbor"
-but-
"Drive out the wicked person from among you,"
-1 corinthians 5:13 Quoting Deuteronomy 17:7

There is a selectivity to who is one's neighbor that I find difficult to reconcile.

I personally feel that the Wiccan rede is insufficient as a moral code - it absolves individuals of any responsibility save for refraining from active "harm".

It is insufficient as the whole of a moral code, but it's good as something to fall back on as a basis for a moral code.

Yes, but in that case, so is the quote Kelly left above.

but(unfortunately in my opinion) there is a strong tendency to define the moral code by terms other than those. Christ's new covenant did not supplant the old, merely muddied the waters.

to expand, I guess part of what I'm saying is that there is not a general agreement on what the CORE message of the bible is in regards to morality. Some people point to love your neighbor, others point to leviticus, others point to Paul(who I find absolutely frustrating because within 8 chapters he can go from saying judge your neighbors to all you need is love(Corinthians 5 and then 13)
