So, I have come to the realization that I am Simon in the great Firefly metaphor of life. I have Simon's excess of education, Simon's dry wit and Simon's inability to talk to women. I may wish sometimes that I was Wash, but I am Simon. This ties into something that I have been dealing with recently. And by recently, I mean I've been dealing with it my entire life. I am smart. It is very hard for me to say this. My entire life, I have been ridiculed for this, told that it was somehow wrong. I have been told that acknowledging that I am smart is somehow inexcusibly arrogant, that it is some sort of problem to be smart, like a third nipple or something(it's fine if you have one, but don't tell anyone). It's just frustrating because I think this is stupid. By saying I am smart, I am not saying other people are dumb. I'm not saying that my variety of intelligence is superior to yours. I'm just saying that I am smart goddamn it, and I'm not going to be timid about it anymore. I am not going to equivocate when people bring intellectual problems to me. I am going to use the gift of my intelligence and tell the world to go fuck itself.

being intelligent is a gift. You should NOT try to hide it, nor should you feel that you have to "dumb down" for others.
