So, I'm not going to Star Wars opening night. This is contrary to all previous practice on my part and would not seem to be the thing that I would do in this situation. However, here's my logic. I'm not putting forth the effort. To see it on opening night, I would have to plan ahead and buy tickets and show up at midnight and things like that. George Lucas' crap does not deserve that from me. The original movies were iconic pieces of my childhood, well made movies that redefined the iconic in film. They had profound twist moments, good acting and beautiful production values.
The new movies have only one of the three. These are not good movies, they are perversions of good movies. Empire Strikes Back: Phantom Menace as Batman(Tim Burton): Batman and Robin. Just because a film takes place in the same world as a film I like doesn't mean that it will be good. Going all otaku over these new films just encourages George to keep doing what he's doing. It says to him that he's doing something right, which he isn't.
I'll go see the film. But not on opening night. George doesn't deserve that from me.
