When a glacier passes over the land, it leaves scars. These scars, lakes and valleys, leave channels for water to flow through. The trouble with these scars is that as more water flows through them, they become deeper and deeper, until all water begins to flow through these channels. It's hard to fill in a scar, especially one so deep.
