So, I usually am able to figure out how to do most things I need to on my computer, but I am now reaching out to my more computer savvy friends to attempt to get help with a problem.
I recently purchased an external hard drive and have had great success using it. My computer was reading it as drive E:, replacing a failed internal hard drive from several years ago. Well, my computer has now, inexplicably, begun to recognize it as drive G:
The problem is, all my iTunes songs are based on the files being on drive E: and now it recognizes none of them. I cannot figure out how to get the computer to consider the drive E: again and hope that someone can help.

Assuming you're using Windows XP (there should be some sort of comparable analogue in Vista, I think), try this:

go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. In Computer Management, on the left-hand side, click Disk Management (it should be the second-to-last entry). On the right, your disk drives will show up. Select the stroppy external hard drive - currently G: - in the top pane and right-click on it; select Change Drive Letter and Paths... from the drop-down menu. In the new dialog box that appears, select G: and click the Change... button. Yet another dialog box will appear; select E: from the drop-down menu that it gives you (which will initially be set to G:), and click OK buttons until you're back down at Computer Management. At this point you can exit Computer Management, and your external hard drive should be back to E:.

Let me know if that doesn't work, and I'll poke around some more.

That's pretty much all I was going to suggest. If you end up (god forbid) having to manually re-address all of your I-Tunes stuff, I know a good trick for making it somewhat less odious, but I'm still hoping it won't come to that.

Oh, and Edg - It's no fair being tech smart and also writing clearly. I'm pretty sure there's a user agreement banning that somewhere. Sheesh - get it together, bro! ( c;

?. We spoke on the phone ... I still haven't gotten anything in writing yet. Can you e-mail it to me? pisthetairos@gmail.com. Not sure if I can afford tickets yet, but I've totally got the leave to burn.
