So, I know a fair number of people have expressed some reticence at the romantic aspect of Tennant. See, I love it, but it's mostly because I consider a lot of the doctor's prior companions to have had a definite romantic undertone. I mean, c'mon, do you think nothing was going on between The Doctor and Romana or for that matter Leela? Why the hell would the Doctor keep Peri around if he wasn't hittin that? Jo? Tegan? I mean, hell, the romantic tension between Patrick Troughton and Frazer Hines was downright palpable. I mean, it wasn't always two sided. Turlough's unrequited crush comes to mind as a good example, but seriously, there's always been romance in Dr. Who, it's just always been deeper in the Tardis. Metaphorically speaking, that is.

The problem isn't the Doctor's romantic entanglements, the problem is Rose Tyler.

Explaining more threatens spoilers, so I shall avoid discussing. Except to say that you can't discount the same sort of disquiet about both McGann and Eccleston, in some ways more than that of Tennant.

Hmm, not sure I agree. For one thing, I've always liked that we have no idea whether the doctor is anatomically "correct", or at all sexually compatible with humans. We do know he *likes* them, and that we look enough, superficially, like timelords that he enjoys the company of pretty girls. I've never been absolutely convinced that the doctor has slept with any of his assistants. It has to be allowed that he may simply find flirtation fun, and the attention of pretty girls flattering.
