The idea of taking a bullet for someone is the societally memetic concept of true friendship. The idea is that true friendship is shown by the willingness to be in between someone and a gun. I think that's an interesting concept but not a real test of true friendship. The real test of friendship comes in the form of romance. If a significant other told you to never see a friend again, where would the dice fall. That's the real test, fight or flight, buddy or friend. I mean, I'd take lots of bullets, that's a split second thing. Taking the well considered bullet of relationship strife is the big deal.

that's more what I was thinking, that the fact that one would choose is bad. A friend is someone who will fight to keep true to both friend and lover in the long term. That's friendship.
