The Doctor and Romance
Jan. 15th, 2009 03:20 pmSo, I know a fair number of people have expressed some reticence at the romantic aspect of Tennant. See, I love it, but it's mostly because I consider a lot of the doctor's prior companions to have had a definite romantic undertone. I mean, c'mon, do you think nothing was going on between The Doctor and Romana or for that matter Leela? Why the hell would the Doctor keep Peri around if he wasn't hittin that? Jo? Tegan? I mean, hell, the romantic tension between Patrick Troughton and Frazer Hines was downright palpable. I mean, it wasn't always two sided. Turlough's unrequited crush comes to mind as a good example, but seriously, there's always been romance in Dr. Who, it's just always been deeper in the Tardis. Metaphorically speaking, that is.
for now at least. One of the joys of British television in general is that people keep recurring. Hardly an episode of New Who goes by that I'm not like, hey, that's Owen from Vicar of Dibley or that's the holoexplorer guy from Red Dwarf. As someone who is admittedly slightly addicted to BBC television, I adore this aspect of things.
